Like that report, it is not claimed to be complete, nor by any means to contain all of our Algae. But, the work having covered considerable parts of four years, it is thought that it will be found to contain most of the common Algae in this state, and will therefore be useful as a guide to students of the microscopy of our waters. To wait until all omissions could be filled would clearly postpone unduly the publication of any report. For these reasons this preliminary report is issued at the present time.
