Book Description: Excerpt from Abstracts of the Bonds and Allegations for Marriage Licences in the Archdeaconry Court of Nottingham, Vol. 10: 1754 1770 With great labour and painstaking patience over many years, the late Mr. F. A. Wadsworth, in whose custody as Archdeacon's Registrar the records were, cleaned and put in order the thousands of documents comprised in the Archdeaconry series while the present editor, as far back as the years 1900 and 1901, made abstracts of all in the Southwell Peculiar down to 1754. Later, Mr. W. A. James of Southwell continued these abstracts down to the end of that jurisdiction in 1853. Mr. Wadsworth not only cleaned and set in order the docu ments in the Archdeaconry series down to the beginning of Civil Registration in July, 1837 but he also made abstracts of all before the year 1753 (when Lord Hardwicke's Act for the better preventing of clandestine marriages came into effect) and he compiled a calendar of the rest.
