They concluded that there was a tendency for ring widths to diminish in recent years and that there is a strong spatial dependence ill forecast residuals that cannot be explained by geographic or biotic factors alone. They did not consider climate, which they mention could explain some of the remaining spatial dependence. The analysis performed here is novel for the field of dendrochronology and may lead to useful results in the future.
