Book Description: This is the carbon of a typescript copy of a manuscript used in the writing of a pamphlet supporting Bristow's nomination for President by the Republican Party in 1876. The manuscript, titled GENERAL BENJAMIN HELM BRISTOW, includes a comprehensive biography of Bristow and a detailed description of his voting record on various controversial issues, particularly as regarded slavery and the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment. It concludes with the text of a speech given by Bristow May 29, 1875. The pamphlet was titled SOME FACTS ABOUT THE LIFE AND PUBLIC SERVICES OF BENJAMIN HELM BRISTOW, and was widely circulated prior to the 1876 Republican Party convention, when Bristow was a serious contender for the presidential nomination. Also included is a copy of the TODD COUNTY STANDARD, v. 72, no. 11 (June 25, 1964), which contains an article titled "Man of Destiny" about Bristow, written by University of Kentucky history professor Ross A. Webb.
