I have also enjoyed preaching and writing about people in the Bible, but then I started to wonder what they were really like? I wanted to do more than observe them, or just preach about them. I wanted to come to know them better, to identify with them, and to allow them to tell their own stories!This began for me while reading about these characters and questions arose and pressed on my mind. For example: how did Abraham discern the voice of God? Why did he decide to leave his homeland in search of something unknown? How could Jacob receive God's blessing when he had lied and cheated to gain the advantage? How did Joseph manage to trust God when he endured prison, after being sold into slavery by his brothers and then betrayed by his employer's wife? What was Daniel experiencing when they shoved him into the den with the lions? How did David or Solomon or Paul come to terms with their temptations, with their willful and sinful obsessions?As I searched their lives and discovered more about them, I gained insight into my own life as a Christian! And this happened because I was experiencing "the saints" who became real persons with real struggles!
