Book Description: Five volumes of manuscript copies of letters from Charles E. Bolton to his wife and son, transcribed by Charles K. Bolton in 1945, discussing travels in Europe, including England, as well as Russia. Two of the volumes are labeled "Volume I", one covering the year 1879 and one covering years 1880-1882. Some letters contain footnotes by the transcriber identifying people and places discussed in the letters. Some letters not in chronological order within the volumes. (1) Dated 3 August 1879-7 September 1879, written on a trip to England. Tipped-in to front of volume is a photograph of Bolton with his wife, Sarah Knowles Bolton, and son, Charles Knowles Bolton, by Deneulain & Blake, 147 Strand, W.C.; includes pressed plant leaves; clippings. (2) Dated 21 August 1879-29 September 1879, written from locations in England. Pasted on to inside back cover of volume is an envelope addressed to Mrs. C.E. Bolton, postmarked 18 August 1879. (3) Dated 8 October 1879-8 December 1879. Includes various items tipped-in throughout volume: an envelope addressed to Mrs. C.E. Bolton; clippings; a notice of the death of Fanny Miller; an autograph letter signed from William N. Reid to Messrs Cadbury, dated Oct. 10, 1879, on the Cleveland Company's machines used at Stirchley Street; an autograph letter signed from W.H. Harris to C.E. Bolton dated Sept. 3, 1879, thanking him for his letter; an autograph letter signed from Emily Steer to Mr. Bolton, dated Nov. 26, indicating that her husband will not be able to meet with Bolton. (4) Dated 28 July 1879-5 December 1879. Contains a chronological index to the letters starting on page 49. (5) Dated 31 August 1882-27 July 1880 in North Cape, Norway, and various locations in England.
