Obtaining Unique Fingerprints from Human Hair Samples Using Proteomic Data by Maryssa A. Beasley PDF Summary

Book Description: Forensic science works to individualize evidence, meaning the source is narrowed down to one possibility. Currently, DNA analysis is the gold standard of individualization, but DNA cannot be collected from hair samples if they do not contain the root. The goal of this research project was to create a procedure for the enzymatic digestion of hair that would result in individual peptide profile fingerprints. These peptide profile fingerprints should be different from person to person, but also reproducible. Samples were analyzed using mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The procedure created reproducible data for straight hair but was not reproducible for curly hair due to the excess disulfide bonds.
