Task Analysis Methods Compared for Application to Training Equipment Development by Bertram J. Smith PDF Summary

Book Description: Personnel aspects of modern military systems under development include criteria for selection, for technical manuals, and for training and training equipment, at the least. But these aspects must be somehow translated from human terms, such as the basic abilities for selection, and the learning phase and type for training. The many methods of task analysis developed for this structuring of behavior into system specification differ widely in the aspect to which they are tailored, in the scope of behavior analyzed, in basic task taxonomy, and even in terminology. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in the features these methods have in common, to examine the theoretical or empiric foundation, and to identify which features are included by some but excluded by others. The focus has been on the applicability to training and training equipment device task analysis requirements. A 'single-thread' example of part of a real but unidentified Fire Control System has been followed throughout. (Author).
