The author cautions that in light of the potential high lethality inherent in dealing with domestic violence cases, this book should be used only by licensed mental health professionals, criminal justice personnel, or paraprofessionals with extensive training in the assessment and treatment of the violent individual. Unlicensed professionals, in particular, should understand the limits of their knowledge and experience and know when to consult with trained professionals.
