He married Eva Schmidt (1851-1925), the daughter of Benjamin Peter Schmidt (1819-1889) and Eva Becker of the Antonofka colony located 15 miles southwest of Karlswalde. In 1874 they immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Kansas.
