Book Description: The earliest identifiable ancestor of the Risner family of eastern Kentucky is Michael Risner, who died in Knox Co., Ky. in 1805. Prior to coming to Knox Co. he lived on the Green Springs Farm in Frederick Co., Maryland and later in western Virginia and in Hawkins Co., Tenn. Michael and Catharine Risner had four children: Sarah (ca. 1784-1866) who married John Jones; Mary Ann (ca. 1784/90-1840), who married (1) John Howard, (2) Gabriel Jackson; Michael (ca. 1790-1864), who married Sarah Howard (ca. 1789-1861), daughter of James and Elizabeth Howard; and Barbara (ca. 1792-1860), who married Oliver Cox. These volumes cover mainly the descendants of Michael and Sarah Howard Risner, who were married ca. 1808. They were parents of thirteen children. Descendants live in Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Washington, Indiana, Missouri, Michigan and elsewhere.
