Many of the family later settled in New Jersey. The spelling of the family name changed to Conover in the late 1700s-early 1800s. One or more of the Conovers (Elias and/or William Lawrence) of the 9th and 10th generations moved to Menard County, Illinois, in the 1830s. The authors of this family history/genealogy are/were of the 12th, 13th, and 14th generation of this Conover family. In a divergent line three of the 7th generation, Cornelius, Peter, and Jacob emigrated to Kentucky ca. 1790. "Peter later went to Illinois"--leaf 11. [Where? When?]
