A Chemical Kinetics Model for the Opposed Flow Diffusion Flame by C. M. Ablow PDF Summary

Book Description: A theoretical analysis is developed of the reaction kinetics limitations leading to the extinction of a counterflow diffusion flame. With increasing mass flux of reactants into the diffusion flame a maximum in the consumption rate of fuel and oxidizer in the reaction zone is encountered. The analysis shows that experimental measurements of the extinction conditions ('apparent flame strengths') are amenable to evaluation of overall kinetic parameters such as the activation energy, the preexponential Arrhenius term, and the order of reaction. The theoretical model is applied to the propane-oxygen-nitrogen system and an activation energy of 21.9 kcal/mole is derived from published experimental flame extinction data. (Author).
