Ernst Heinrich Auf der Masch (as the original German) was born March 12, 1812 in Groeneberg, near Buer, in the Kingdom of Hannover, Germany, and baptized in the Ev. Lutheran Church in Buer, the home church of many of our early New Melle area immigrants. His wife, Florentine Elizabeth Posse, was also born in Groeneberg on March 15, 1818. ... There are 614 family names listed in the index, and of the more numerous surnames, other an Auf der Masch; are Brakensiek, Dosenbach, Freese, Fuermann, Guittar, Hillmann, Molitor, Nienhueser, Roche, Holt, Runkles, Schwede, Unterbrink and Wipperman.
