Book Description: Excerpt from Class of 1861, Harvard College Twentieth Anniversary: Dinner at Hotel Brunswick, Boston, June 28, 1881 Classmates: Special efforts were made to secure the presence, at the dinner on our Twentieth Anniversary, of as many as possible of those who had at any time been members of the Class. On March 31st a preliminary meeting was held in Dabney's office, at which a plan was arranged for reaching in good season all whose addresses were known, and a "Committee of Preparation," consisting of Hale, Gilbert, Rice, Hardon, Bowditch and Dabney, together with the Treasurer and the Secretary, was appointed. Two series of circulars of invitation were sent, to those temporarily in the Class as well as to its graduated members, urging such as could not attend to forward some account of themselves to the Secretary; and these circulars were reinforced in many instances by individual and personal entreaties. The result was that thirty-eight of our number (thirty-four graduates, and Adams, Blake, Curtis, and Storrow, who did not complete the course) met around the festive board at the Hotel Brunswick on the evening of June 28, 1881.
