In Dear Miss Forbes, these students writings are aesthetically priceless and are incomparable to nothing else in the world. Children s writings are special and should be appreciated in the highest forms at all times. Children s writings are also a reflection and perception of their inner world in which they live. Their perception of the world in which they live should be nurtured, embraced, celebrated, acknowledge and most importantly, respected. Children are also unique individuals who are lovingly created in the imago dei (image of God). They should be treated with utmost dignity and respect. This dignity includes appreciating what they have to share in both oral and written forms of expressions as well as acknowledging and appreciating their hard work that they spent hours creating. Sometimes their writings reveal new aesthetical joys that often times encouraged teachers both personally, as well as professionally. A number of research supports the view that children s literacy developments is synonymous with their writing skills development. As elementary school teachers, it is higly important to take out at least ten minutes of each day that would allow students to write down their thoughts on a piece of paper. Have them read it and share it with their classmates, and file it in their journals. Simple approaches like these can help make a big difference in students writing skills.
